As I write, the sun is shining through the window and the half-term weather is looking promising. Let's take a look at some of the best things to do in Devon and Cornwall.
Ashburton Cookery School Teen Cuisine Course (28th October)
A perfect one day course for 13 - 17 year olds where they’ll learn knife skills, how to make pizza bread dough and baking amongst other things - we can see a few Master Chefs in the making at this course. https://bit.ly/2NzFqDh
For grown ups:
Salcombe Gin School - throughout October
A wonderful morning or afternoon learning about distilling and getting to make your own bottle of gin using your own recipe of botanicals under the guidance of the Salcombe Gin experts. There may be the opportunity for a couple of cheeky G & Ts consumed throughout the session, all in the name of research of course *hiccup*.
For the children:
Most of the main attractions have specific events running throughout the half-term week and we have picked out a couple. Crealy Great Adventure Park, are hosting Crealy Halloween with Spooktacular activities and their new Scarecrow Scare Maze, and the Minack Theatre are running their Storytelling sessions where the kids can hear all about Morwenna the ‘beautiful’ mermaid, Ruan the reformed seagull and salty seadog Captain Pemburthy whilst the Atlantic ocean crashes against the rocks below.
For animal lovers:
Puptober 20th - 28th October
The Cornish Seal Sanctuary will be hosting Puptober where you can learn all about the dramatic rescues of their grey seal pups and experience pup rescue hands on. Book tickets through the Visit Sea Live website https://www.visitsealife.com
The Donkey Sanctuary Tricks & Treats 20th - 31st October
A visit to the donkey sanctuary is always special. They are running their Tricks & Treats event throughout half-term including a trick or treat trail, pumpkin carving and the a visit to the spooky Bat Beacon. https://www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk
Gruffts 20th - 28th October
Brand new for 2018, Gruffts promises to be the greatest goat show of the year with the goats being judged on various aspects including agility and disobedience and visitors to the farm will be delivering the final verdict on which goat wins the coveted ‘Best in Show’ for 2018. Tickets for the event can be booked here https://www.pennywellfarm.co.uk/Gruffts
As well as these events, there are of course the glorious beaches throughout Devon and Cornwall (that are now all open to dogs for the Winter season yay!), Dartmoor and Exmoor to enjoy walks and picnics. And if the rain comes, wellies and muddy puddle jumping are a firm favourite- if it's good enough for Peppa Pig then it's good enough for us.
